The three grants
At a glance
RMPG
Retail Modernization Project Grant
- Independent brick-and-mortar retailers and restaurants, under 50 staff
- Point-of-sale upgrades, inventory systems, security cameras, cybersecurity
- A stand-alone grant, no consultant or roadmap required
- First come, first served while funds last
DMAP
Digital Modernization & Adoption Plan
- For businesses that make a product or build software
- You work with an approved Digital Advisory Consultant for 3 months
- They assess your business and write a modernization roadmap
- Required before you can apply for the larger TDP grant
TDP
Technology Demonstration Project
- Funds the actual build of the technology from your DMAP roadmap
- Requires a completed DMAP first
- Hardware is capped at 20% of the project
- Competitive, a fresh application, not automatic after DMAP
The path for producers and software companies: DMAP (plan it) then TDP (build it). Retailers take a separate, simpler lane with RMPG. You apply to DMAP or RMPG, not both.
Eligibility
Which grant is for you?
The biggest deciding factor is what your business does. OCI funds businesses that make things, not services.
You likely qualify
- You manufacture or produce a physical product (including breweries, wineries, food producers, metal or tool shops, print shops)
- You build and sell software
- You are an incorporated business (not a sole proprietorship or non-profit)
- Your annual revenue is up to $750,000
- Retailers and restaurants qualify for the RMPG lane
Not eligible for these grants
- Service businesses (law firms, clinics, gyms, real estate, trades, cleaning, consulting)
- Sole proprietorships and non-profits
- Marketing, website, SEO, or e-commerce-only projects
- Businesses over the revenue cap
The process
How to apply, step by step
Confirm you qualify
Check the eligibility above. Producers and software companies go the DMAP then TDP route. Retailers and restaurants go the RMPG route.
Express your interest with OCI
Submit an interest form through the Ontario Centre of Innovation at oc-innovation.ca/DCC. OCI reviews it and, if you qualify, opens your application.
Producers: get matched with a consultant
OCI gives you access to their roster of approved Digital Advisory Consultants. You choose one. Over about 3 months they assess your business and write your DMAP roadmap. (Retailers skip this step.)
Apply for the build
With your DMAP roadmap in hand, apply for the TDP grant to fund the actual technology build. For retail, apply the RMPG toward your POS, inventory, or security upgrade.
Implement
Put the funding to work. This is where an implementation partner builds the AI, automation, or systems your roadmap calls for.
